Ah, May! Spring blooms, hopefully less wind, sunny skies and warmer temps! And of course more great music art and more here at the Space! Thurs. May 10, from New York, it’s indie Folk, Jazz trumpeter, John Raymond and Real Feels with guitarist Gilad Hekselman (who was here with Anat Cohen) and drummer Colin Stranahan– all rising stars on the scene! Then, it’s an Inpost Artspace Reception: Theta Scapes: New Paintings & Drawings by Jon Pearson (Fri, May 11); a Kids Variety Show (5/11); and Albuquerque’s own Asian percussion ensemble, Gamelan Encantada (Sun, May 13, Mother’s Day!). Plus, closing out the spring season on May 18 it’s Roust The House Teen Performance Night.
And, as we wrap up one season, we are readying ourselves for the next! Summer 2018! We have a great season planned for you, including the 23rd Annual Summer Thursday Jazz Nights (June 14-August 23) and of course, the 13th Annual New Mexico Jazz Festival (July 11-30)! The schedule for Summer Thursday Jazz will up soon and tickets for the NMJF will be on sale soon as well. We’ll keep you posted!

We wrap up April and Jazz Appreciation Month at Outpost with three terrific shows! First, it’s the UNM Jazz Bands under the direction of Glenn Kostur & Chris Buckholz (4/26); then it’s an evening of Indian Classical Music with Purbayan Chatterjee, sitar; Shashank, flute; Anubrata Chatterjee, tabla; Parupalli Phalgun, mrdangam (4/27)-Almost Sold Out!! And on Sunday April 29, it’s the great Dafnis Prieto Si o Si Quartet (4/29). Then coming up in May it’s Bay area jazz singer, Lori Carsillo; New York based jazz and indie rock trumpeter, John Raymond & Real Feels; A Kids Variety Show; Gamelan Encantada and more! And Tickets for the 13th Annual New Mexico Jazz Festival (July 11-30) will go on sale soon! Stay Tuned!

The last week of March brings in some great music…including the second concert presented in partnership with UNM’s 47th Annual John Donald Robb Composers’ Symposium: Thrascher with Glenn Kostur on Thursday, March 29! Then it’s 516 Words, a reading, Friday, March 30 – part of our partnership with 516 Arts U.S.-Mexico Border exhibition. And that’s followed on Sunday, March 31 by Americans in Europe with the great David Moss in a solo performance and the Martin Kratochivil-Tony Ackerman Duo.
Then, we welcome in April (hopefully with some showers!) with Trinidadian trumpeter, Etienne Charles Thursday, April 5. Charles returns to NM with his quintet to perform his Creole Soul music. All About Jazz wrote “This is spirit moving feet. This is jazz in the Caribbean. This is improvised joy!” Presented in partnership with and at the African American Performing Arts Center. And there’s so much great music and more in April. Lone Piñon, Frontera Bugalú, ABQ Grand Slam Poetry Slam Championships, Ricky Malichi Trio w. Chuck Redd, Rahim AlHaj Trio, Amina Figarova Sextet, Edmar Castaneda, etc etc etc! Get your tickets today!

The Outpost Spring season got off to a great start with two sold out concerts, including our Outpost benefit which was a great success, thanks to all of our sponsors, attendees, volunteers, etc! And now we continue on with more great music and other events. This Thursday, in conjunction with 516 Arts’ The US-Mexico Border exhibition, it’s a public forum, Sovereignty and Sanctuary; then 2017 NM Governor’s Award for Excellence in the Arts recipients, Bayou Seco’s rollicking traditional folk music featuring several special guests; followed by the Inaugural Steve Maase Legacy Guitar Summit which will feature guitarists Lily Maase, Eric McFadden and many others (3/17); and more! It’s all up on the schedule page and tickets are on sale online or by phone and in person at Outpost! Remember, get your tickets early for the shows you want to attend as many sell out in advance!

It’s going to be a great Spring Season here at Outpost and we are busy getting all the pieces together! The spring newsletter will go out in the mail in mid February and remember, we only mail it to members, donors and sponsors, so if you’d like to get your very own copy in the mail, become an Outpost Member today at any level or become a newsletter subscriber for only $10/year! The season officially begins on Sunday February 25 with a special Outpost Jazz Club Style Benefit at the Space featuring the great Ron Miles, Bill Frisell and Brian Blade (Circuit Rider)! These are always such enjoyable evenings with food provided by some of Albquuerque’s best restaurants, a jazz club style setting with small round tables and white table cloths, & of course a concert by world renowned jazz artists! And proceeds go to support Outpost programming throughout the year!
Meanwhile, Jazz & Latin Music classes for Youth & Adults begin February 5 (Latin classes are full for spring, but space available in all the other classes!). AND there will be an Inpost Artspace Reception, Friday, February 2, 5-7pm: With Sprinkles: Work by Kate Wood.

Thanks to everyone who contributed to our Season’s Pleadings Year-End Fundraising campaign! We so appreciate your ongoing support of Outpost and we look forward to a great season of music, classes, art exhibits, and more …just ahead! If you missed the ‘deadline’ for the year-end campaign – that is once the clock struck midnight and it was the new year – not to worry! We are happy to receive contributions any time during the year! You can donate online, send us a check, or call us at 505-268-0044 and we can take a credit card. Either way, we appreciate every $1 and we thank you for keeping it happening at the Space and beyond!
Meanwhile, we are getting ready for the new season and the spring newsletter will be mailed in mid February. You’ll notice that some of the shows are already up online for which you can purchase tickets now! Check it all out on our schedule page – some pretty great stuff!
