Noah McLaurine: [Tension Building Music]

Opening Reception: Friday, September 2, 5 – 7pm

[Tension-Building Music] presents the recent work of Noah McLaurine, who has been exploring and photographing public lands and monuments in New Mexico since moving from Brooklyn two years ago. McLaurine’s curiosity about the natural and cultural forces that shape the unique landscape have led him to revel in the ubiquitous signs of erosion and change: the subtle marks a plant makes in the sand, enigmatic shards of metal and detritus, weather patterns hinting at atomic explosions. Wrestling with cultural artifacts surrounding Los Alamos and the Trinity Site, McLaurine notices the mountains rising in the distance, shaped by thousands of years of rain and wind, some of the only witnesses to the abrupt and radical transformation of the test site. His work highlights evidence of erosion both gradual and abrupt, how boundaries have been drawn and redrawn, and stories relentlessly written and rewritten.

Exhibition dates:  August 29 – November 5, 2016
