George Cables Trio – LIVESTREAM!

A New Mexico Jazz Festival Event

Sponsored by Walter Putnam and Yoko Zeigler

Included in the pantheon of the greatest jazz pianists, George Cables helped to define the modern mainstream jazz piano of the 1980s and ‘90s. Equally skilled as a leader or as a sideman, he formed the Jazz Samaritans with Steve Grossman and Billy Cobham in the 1960’s and gained recognition playing with ArtBlakey’s Jazz Messengers, as well as with Sonny Rollins, Joe Henderson, and Freddie Hubbard. He also played with Dexter Gordon in the late 70’s and became known as Art Pepper’s favorite pianist. Cables, who has recorded over 30 albums as a leader, has also performed and recorded with Roy Haynes, Max Roach, Woody Shaw, Sarah Vaughn, Dizzy Gillespie and many more. He currently performs and records as a soloist, with trio and larger ensembles, and as a clinician in college jazz programs. Tonight, he is joined by bassist Essiet Essiet and drummer Jerome Jennings.
