New York based Jazz guitarist and New Mexico native, Greg Ruggiero, returns to Outpost to perform an evening of swing and jazz standards with his trio featuring drum legend Albert “Tootie” Heath who has made Santa Fe his home for the last few years. Tootie Heath has played with ALL the jazz greats from John Coltrane to Dexter Gordon and is the last living member of the renowned Heath Brothers (bassist Percy Heath who passed away in 2005 and saxophonist Jimmy Heath who just passed in January 2020). Also playing tonight will be bassist Terry Burns. Ruggiero, who grew up in Albuquerque, has lived in New York for the past 15 years developing his craft, and playing regularly with many of the jazz legends still performing there. He has performed at many of the top clubs including Carnegie Hall, Birdland, the Jazz Standard, Smalls, Jazz Gallery and others. Stylistically his music runs the gambit from complex original compositions to the American songbook and Swing. His latest CD, It’s About Time (2018) features his long standing rhythm section with drummer Steve Little, of Duke Ellington fame, and bassist Murray Wall, who played with Benny Goodman. Ruggiero currently performs with pianist Michael Kanan's Trio and rising star vocalist Lucy Yeghiazaryan. He has established himself as one of New York’s most in-demand guitarists.
