An award-winning Afro-Cuban jazz singer, composer and choir director from Havana, Daymé Arocena has been described as Cuba's "finest young female singer." The original singer with Jane Bunnett’s Afro-Cuban jazz band, Maqueque, which won the 2015 Juno Award for the best jazz album, she has since established a burgeoning solo career, recording two albums, including her 2017 release, Cubafonía, and performing world-wide. Drawing inspiration from the intertwining musical legacies of her native Cuba and approaching jazz, soul and classical influences with an innate sense of rhythm, Arocena has been called a bright-shining performer who is carrying the flame for a new generation of Cuban musicians. Billboard writes, “Daymé looks set to join the group of women artists who are described as global divas.” She’ll be joined by Jorge Luis Lagarza, piano; Rafael Aldama, bass; and Marcos Morales, drums.
