Hailing from Peru, Bolivia, Ecuador, and the United States, Baracutanga has become a household name in the New Mexico music scene. Their music features South American styles such as Brazilian Samba/Batucada, Afro Peruvian festejos and landos, Colombian Cumbias and Andean Huaynos. They have performed in Colorado, Texas, California, Illinois, Calgary (Canada) and Mexico, sharing stages with many acclaimed groups, including Orquesta Akokan of Cuba, The Family Stone, Los Gaiteros de San Jacinto of Colombia, Palenke Soul Tribe of Mexico, Barenaked Ladies, Mexican Institute of Sound, Dwayne Dopsie & The Zydeco Hellraisers, Tanya Tagaq of Canada, Birds of Chicago, and Like Chouk Bwa Libéte from Haiti. For this concert, they will present an acoustic version of their music, focusing on material from their upcoming 2020 spring release, Volver Atras. Baracutanga is Jackie Zamora, lead vocals; Kilko Paz, percussion and charango; Carlos Noboa, bass and quena; Joseph Altamirano, guitar and pan-flutes; Nick Baker, drums, percussion, accordion and vibes; Paul Gonzales, trumpet and percussion; and Micah Hood, trombone, percussion and Andean flutes. They will also be joined by guest musicians and dancers. Tonight’s concert is a fundraiser for Baracutanga’s upcoming CD.
