Featuring three award winning, world-class jazz artists – pianist Edward Simon, bassist Scott Colley, and drummer Brian Blade, Steel House is a newly formed trio whose unique musical chemistry is at once exciting, innovative, spirited, and diverse. Since meeting in New York in the early 1990s, these three artists have shared stages and studios and played many different styles of music together. They formed Steel House to create a dedicated place for their own musical explorations. As they describe it, their music embraces both silence and stillness from which conversations can emerge. “The music is infectious – spirited and serious, caring and carefree.” A native of Venezuela now based in San Francisco, 2010 Guggenheim Fellow Edward Simon is known for his “intuitive empathy and drum-like ingenuity. ” His 2016 album, Latin American Songbook, won him an NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Jazz Album and he has performed with Bobby Hutcherson, Terence Blanchard, David Binney, the SF Jazz Collective and others. The bassist of choice for Herbie Hancock, Jim Hall, Andrew Hill, and Michael Brecker, Scott Colley has played in groups led by Chris Potter, Adam Rogers, David Binney, and Kenny Werner and is an accomplished composer and bandleader. One of the most creative and dynamic jazz drummers today, as well as a singer and songwriter, Brian Blade has been the featured drummer with Wayne Shorter, Joni Mitchell, Joshua Redman, Bob Dylan, Chick Corea, and countless others and leads his own band, The Fellowship.
