A 14-year veteran of Tuesday nights at “Smoke” jazz club in NYC, internationally renowned pianist, Hammond B3 master organist, educator, and bandleader Mike LeDonne has been one of the most in-demand session musicians for over 30 years. Backing icons like Milt Jackson, Bobby Hutcherson, and Sonny Rollins, among others, he has been the bridge between the straight ahead and soul music of his generation and was picked as one of Oscar Peterson’s favorite pianists. Nominated for Best Keyboard Artist 2012 by the prestigious Jazz Journalists Association, LeDonne has appeared as a sideman on over 100 recordings, and boasts 16 releases as a leader. The Groover Quartet, which was formed in 2004 and has toured throughout Europe, Japan and the US, has expanded the range and power of the traditional B3 trio format by adding the tenor saxophone voice of Eric Alexander to the sounds of guitarist Peter Bernstein, and drummer Joe Farnsworth. “They perform their version of what, in the trade, is called ‘grits and gravy jazz’– groove music that’s fun and good for the soul.” (Greg Thomas, NY Daily News).
