New Mexico based vocalist Diane Richardson, who performed with her group Soul Shadows at the 2022 Route 66 Summerfest, is joined this evening by Music Director and pianist John Funkhouser; Cyrus Campbell, bass; Arnaldo Acosta, drums; and Alex Murzyn, saxophone. Before relocating to New Mexico, Richardson served as Associate Professor, Professor and Assistant Chair, Voice Department at Berklee College of Music, and performed with the Berklee Sun Ra Arkestra as a spoken-word artist with the national touring company of the Langston Hughes Project: Twelve Moods for Jazz. She was also member of the Boston-based big band “Makanda Project.” The founder of the Jazz Performance Arts Collective, Richardson has created programs around jazz icons, Abbey Lincoln, Thelonious Monk, Steve Lacy and more, Tonight, she focusses on the great jazz vocalist, Ella Fitzgerald in a celebration of her April 25 birthday.
