Currently based in Colorado, Roshan Jamal Bhartiya, is one of India’s premier sitarists. His family’s musical roots trace back to the Moghul period and are connected to the legacy of the legendary Tansen. Bhartiya started his training under the guidance of his father, Ustad Jamaluddin, later studying with the legendary Pandit Ravi Shankar. He has played and taught extensively, working for many years for All India Radio, television and Indian film. Bhartiya was chosen as a member of a cultural delegation for the promotion of the arts, touring different parts of India, neighboring countries, and parts of Europe and taught at his father’s Indian music school in Amsterdam. Roshan Jamal Bhartiya will be accompanied on tabla by Ty Burhoe, a disciple of Ustad Zakir Hussain since 1990. Recognized for creating unusual collaborations weaving tabla into the traditions of jazz, African, Flamenco, rock, Celtic, Chinese, and bluegrass he has worked with Art Lande, Krishna Das, Bela Fleck, and Steve Gorn. Also known as a recording and live concert producer he is active as well, in organizing drumming/yoga retreats and intensives throughout the Americas and Europe. $15/$10 Members & Students. |
