A native New Mexican, ex-Texan, and now New Yorker, Lily Maase is an adventurous guitarist, composer, and teacher. She has performed and recorded as a jazz, classical, and rock musician, including a 2007 stint with the all-girl pop sensations, the Lascivious Biddies. Maase currently performs with Greg Heffernan’s Sauce, the Walter Thompson Orchestra, Elliott Sharp’s 14-guitar ensemble SyndaKit, singer-songwriters Nikki Kelly and Nisha Asnani, and serves as the creative director of the Addtract Consortium, a Brooklyn-based music initiative “dedicated to exploring the nexus between the creative process as personal actualization and performance media as a community action.” The Suite Unraveling is a Brooklyn-based performance art initiative combining elements of songwriting, improvised film, and avant-garde jazz, for which she is the musical director, guitarist, and sole composer. The music is “lively and danceable, raw yet intimate, and leaps easily from jazz to indie rock to the avant garde without losing its own sense of style.” It features Lily Maase, guitar/voice/compositions; Mike Kammers, saxophone; Greg Heffernan, cello/electronics; Alex Mallett, bass/voice; and Nico Dann, drums.
